OnLAW® User Guide

Filtering Searches

When accessing OnLAW from a desktop computer, you may "filter" any of the four main search types by specifying areas of interest within the Table of Contents - doing so will limit the search results to a specific law area, book, etc.

To filter a search:

  1. Click the Search button on the Main Toolbar.

  2. The Table of Contents will populate with empty check boxes. Check the topic area(s), book(s), etc. to which you want to limit your search.

  3. Click the Search button.

The number of results within the area(s) you have selected will display to the left of the name of the law area, book title, chapter, etc.

Notes:

  • Filtering searches is not enabled for the Quick Search feature on the desktop.

  • Filtering searches is not enabled for mobile devices with smaller dimensions. However, if you edit or re-run a search on the My OnLAW Searches page from a mobile device where a filter has been selected previously on a desktop computer, the filter will be applied on the mobile device.

  • Checkboxes will remain selected until you click Clear from a search form or manually deselect them.
